  • About Library

    Background

    The Library is the center of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). It has been growing with the university constantly serving the vibrant community of students and faculty members since its establishment. In 2004, the Library was launched at 116 Arjatpara, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Dhaka-1212. In 2006, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and the Central Library were moved to its own campus at House 56, Road 4/A, Dhanmondi, Dhaka-1209. Since 2022, Library is functioning from the ULAB Main Campus at 688 Beribadh Road, Mohammadpur, Dhaka-1207. Different types of text and reference books are available at the Permanent Campus Library. ULAB Library is the center to facilitate knowledge acquisition by providing Reading Materials/ Resources to ULAB Students, Faculty Members, and Staff. 

    Library Resources

    ULAB Library is enriched with various types of resources that includes Textbooks, Reference Books, Special & Rare Books, e-Books, Periodicals, National and  International Journals & Magazines (print & online), Reports, Newspapers (national & international), Audio-Visual Materials, and Maps & Atlas, etc. Besides, ULAB Library is a member of a variety of Online Archives & Databases. 
    Library Resources are kept on the shelf following the internationally recognized Classification System ‘
    DDC scheme’ (Dewey Decimal Classification). The Library provides access to a wide range of e-resources through a remote access user account.

    Library Orientation

    ULAB Library arranges orientation programs every semester for the freshers on a regular basis to orient them with Library resources, activities & facilities. Also, the Library is introduced to freshers at central orientation in the auditorium through Library Documentary/Video. The library conducts a Library Tour by following 4 steps.

    4 Steps of Introducing Library to Freshers:
    - How to search Catalog (OPAC) and its Resources Hunting
    - How to Borrow Library Resources (Lending procedures)
    - Introducing Online Resources
    - Library Tour
    Besides, the library conducts virtual orientation programs during this pandemic via Google-Meet or Zoom platform.

    Library Management System 

    ULAB Library activities are operated by the Library Management software KOHA. Library maintains a database of Library holdings. Users can easily find resources with the help of the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

    ULAB Library Digital Repository (DSpace)

    ULAB Library maintains a Digital Repository (DSpace). It is a digital archive that collects, preserves, and distributes resources that are published within the university. Users can easily access and use these digital resources through DSpace.

    RFID Technology

    The library uses RFID technology for the smooth operation and management of library books. RFID enhances the user experience with quicker check-in and check-out, allowing users to carry personal books in the study area alongside library books.

  • Library Sections

    Acquisition Section: Acquisition section is responsible for receiving purchase requisition, communicating with vendors and suppliers, and making the materials available in the library. 
    Processing Section: Processing section is responsible for the processing of library materials. This section receives materials after acquiring them in the library and makes them available for readers.    
    Circulation Section: Circulation section is responsible for lending books to users, returning books, and related activities with this service. 
    Reference Section: Reference section provides reference services to the patrons with different reference materials and various internet tools.   
    Documentation Section: Circulation section is responsible for preserving library administrative documents and resource information.  
    Information Section: Information section helps and guides users to locate library resources, to use the library service & facilities, and provide information about the library.
